Found solitary or in small groups on ground in coniferous and mixed forests.
Fruiting body: Orange-yellow; stout, white, bulbous base with multiple branches and closely packed tips. According to G. Lincoff, species in this genus do not bruise brown when handled (National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms, c. 1981). (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
