Deadly Galerina Galerina marginata (Batsch) K├╝hner 1935    Synonyms: Galerina autumnalis.
Kingdom Fungi   >   Phylum Basidiomycota   >   Class Agaricomycetes   >   Order Agaricales   >   Family Strophariaceae   >   Genus Galerina

Status:

Poisonous! Contains the same deadly toxins as the Amanitas. Fruits primarily in the fall, when it may be confused with honey mushrooms. (L. Biechele, pers. comm.)

According to Michael Kuo and Index Fungorum, as of 2001, DNA analysis has put G. autumnalis and several other Galerina species together and lumped them under the old European name, G. marginata. Older field guides could have either name. Newer ones have adopted marginata (J. Solem, pers. comm.).

Description:

This LBM (little brown mushroom) is usually attached to decaying wood. Cap is about 2-5 cm in diameter with brownish-colored gills. Spore print is rusty-brown. There is a fragile annulus on the stipe. (L. Biechele, pers. comm.)

There are 104 records in the project database.
