Status:

This species has been widely reported as Russula nigricans. However, according to several sources that species is restricted to Europe and Western North America. The species in Eastern North America is Russula dissimulans. Some sources also suggest that this species may be a synonym of Russula adusta.

Description:

This species bruises red and then black (L. Biechele, pers. comm.).
