Found solitary or in groups under conifers.

Description:

Cap: Coppery-orange (sometimes yellow), smooth, viscid when wet, convex (flat with central depression in age), margin striate in age; flesh white, brittle, slowly stain gray/black when cut. Gills: Cream/yellowish-white, often forked near stalk, crowded, bruise brown. Stalk: White (gray in age or when handled), dry, smooth. KOH turns cap yellow by dissolving orange pigments (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
