Status:

Found scattered or in groups under white pine (obligate).

Description:

Cap: Yellow flesh covered with conspicuous pink or dark red scales; convex to nearly flat; margin inrolled; yellow flesh may stain slightly reddish. Pores: Yellow, may stain reddish-brown, slightly decurrent, angular, somewhat radially arranged; tube layer not easily separated from cap. Stalk: Covered with reddish scales; veil on young specimens may leave a grayish ring (J. Solem, pers. comm.).

Relationships:

Requires Eastern White Pine.
