Fruiting body: Infertile (outer) surface blue-green; fertile (inner) surface blue-green (sometimes yellow-green); smooth; saucer to cup-shaped. Stalk: Blue-green, often off-center. Spores must be examined to distinguish C. aeruginascens from nearly identical C. aeruginosa (not yet confirmed for the project) and the two species are treated together here.
Found in groups or clusters on hardwood logs, mostly oaks; often stain wood substrate blue-green. (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
