Found solitary or in groups under white pines.
Cap: Tan-brown, becoming red-brown in age; broadly convex to flat; viscid; margin with narrow band of sterile tissue; flesh white. Pores: Pale yellow when young, darker in age; bruise brownish in mature specimens; beads of milk-like latex often present in young specimens; angular. Stalk: Shades of yellow sometimes with reddish streaks; dry; nearly equal or enlarged down with narrowed base. Extended handling of these fruiting bodies stains hand dark brown (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
