In Maryland, the Blue-headed Vireo migrates throughout the state but seems to be a summer resident only in the western part of the state, where it breeds in hemlock, white pine, and mixed mesophytic forests (Stewart and Robbins, 1958). Robbins, et al. (1989) found that, in Maryland, this bird's nesting territories are highly correlated with extensive moist forest.
