Tetramorium species-E found on popcorn by students at Jemicy School in Baltimore Co., Maryland (8/29/2013). Identified by Ben Coulter, who shared the following: "These are Tetramorium species-E. This abundant invasive species was formerly considered to be T. caespitum, but genetic work on native populations in the Palearctic has revealed a number of cryptic species that were lumped under that name. The ants accidentally introduced to North America belong to a species termed species-E in the paper. They have not been formally named yet." (Link to paper) Photo by
