This possibly undescribed species has a more strongly contrasting forewing pattern than the closely related species Blastodacna bicristatella and flies during early and mid-spring. B. sp. 1 has a DNA barcode cluster of BOLD:AAB2791, closely related to those of B. bicristatella and B. atra. (T. Reichard, pers. comm.)
