This species was described from samples collected in Maryland (Calvert and Harford Counties) by Rufus Thompson (1949).

Description

Stylodinium longipes is a microscopic dinoflagellate that is sessile (non-motile) during its vegetative stage. Unlike Stylodinium globosum, the cells of Stylodinium longipes are quadrate and have a relatively long, slender stipe.
