Status

This species was described in Edda Martinez' unpublished revision of the genus Donacaula (Martinez, 2010). Some of the paratypes have Patuxent Research Wildlife Station, Prince George's County, Maryland as a locality, and it has been confirmed in the Patuxent Research Refuge North Tract in Anne Arundel County. The distribution in Maryland is likely more widespread. Adults of the species are best identified by dissection.

Relationships

Larval host plants are unknown but are expected to be grasses (Poaeceae) and sedges (Cyperaceae) in wetlands (Martinez 2010).

Donacaula is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae. The genus was erected by Edward Meyrick in 1890.

Four species of this genus are represented in the Palearctic region, four species in Africa, two species in the Oriental region, seven species in the Neotropical region and twenty-one in the Nearctic region.[2]
