"Of note, C. scrupulosa frequently occurs in caves and springs in West Virginia, where some populations are even stygomorphic. Although this species is fairly widespread in Maryland, particularly in vernal pools, it is replaced in spring habitats by C. kenki" (Lewis, 2011).
