Found scattered or groups in mixed hardwoods, frequently near Yellow Birch according to references.
Cap: Brown, convex to nearly flat; flesh white staining reddish near cap junction, then fading to gray. Pores: Whitish to gray-brown, may stain brown. Stalk: White with gray / black scabers, often with blue-green stains near base. Flesh of cut stalk slowly turns reddish near cap junction, then slowly fades to gray; lower stalk blue-green. (J.
